3D IMAGING

At Neil Starr DDS PC, we strive to provide you with the best possible oral treatments. To achieve this goal, we utilize some of the most advanced diagnostic tools available. This technology allows us to provide you with more accurate diagnoses and more effective treatment plans. One of the diagnostic tools we use is 3D imaging with ICAT technology.

WHAT IS 3D IMAGING?

3D imaging is a type of digital imaging technology (which means low-radiation). The technology used for 3D imaging is similar to that of a digital x-ray, and the images produced are similar to those produced by a traditional CT scan. 3D imaging utilizes a cone-shaped x-ray beam, which rotates a complete 360-degrees around your head. As the cone rotates, it takes many images. Once your scan is complete, all of the images are merged together to create a single 3-dimensional image. It shows us your teeth, bones, soft tissues, and your nerves. With these images, we can create a more accurate diagnosis, and formulate more effective treatments.
USES FOR 3D IMAGING
There are multiple uses for a 3D image, including:
  • Evaluating the condition of your jawbone.
  • Assessing your candidacy for Dental Implants.
  • Diagnosing impacted teeth (wisdom teeth or other teeth).
  • Checking your sinus cavities, nasal passageways, and nerve passageways.
  • Diagnosing issues with your temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
  • Evaluating tumors in your jaw.
  • Planning oral reconstructive surgery.

WHAT IS THE 3D I-CAT FLX V SCANNER?

3-D i-Cat FLX V Scanner is an advanced form of digital x-ray that helps us visualize all of the details within your head and jaw. As compared to typical dental x-ray, the 3-D iCat FLX V Scanner provides better, more accurate imaging. It also exposes you to far less radiation than traditional x-rays. It can produce images from different dimensions in a single exposure, which is unlike traditional x-ray that can only produce a 2-D image from a single scan. With 3-D iCat Flx V Scanner, you get the x-ray scan done once, and it can then produce multiple images. The procedure will take about 10 seconds and be done in a comfortable area with plenty of space around you. After the procedure, we can easily share the data with you, or when necessary, other dental professionals.

Depending on your dental condition and the procedure you need to have performed, we may require this type of technology. This gives us an in-depth view of your oral cavity, the roots of your teeth, the bones of your jaw, your nerves, and your sinuses. We can then visualize any damage or injuries in these parts much more easily than requiring invasive procedures. With this technology, we can precisely perform and tailor surgical (implant related treatments), endodontic (root canal related treatments) and orthodontic treatment plans to the needs of our patients more efficiently. In addition to that, success and recovery rates are also higher when better imaging is used.

The 3D i-Cat FLX V Scanner has helped revolutionize dental medicine forever more.

GETTING YOUR SCAN

There is minimal preparation that needs to be done before getting your scan. We will advise you to remove all jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, and any other facial piercings. You will need to remove any metallic hair accessories, including clips, pins, and hair bands with metal clasps. If you wear hearing aids or glasses, these will need to be removed as well.

When you are ready, you sit at the machine and place your chin on the chin rest. We will make any necessary adjustments, which will allow us to capture the best possible image. Once the scan begins, it is important that you remain completely still. The scan is completely painless. It only takes a few more seconds for your 3D image to appear on our computer monitor, ready for reading.
