IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR TEETH IN A DAY

Dr. Neil L Starr

WHAT IS "TEETH IN A DAY"?

Dental implants are a modern treatment for tooth replacement, providing you a unique, beneficial alternative to traditional bridges and dentures. This treatment requires a surgical procedure, during which small titanium rods/screws are implanted into your jawbone. These screw in rods are the implants that are then used to support dental crowns.
What makes this procedure unique is that the SAME DAY that the implants are positioned in your jaw structure, a temporary bridge of crowns is attached to the implants and this arrangement provides the patient with immediate tooth replacement before the patient ever leaves the office.
It will take a series of months before you have your temporary implant bridge replaced with a more permanent final restoration. This is because the bone structure must first knit up against the implant surfaces and unite and mature completely. Of course, having your TEETH REPLACED IN A DAY avoids the concern for being without teeth for any period of time.

At Neil L. Starr, DDS, PC, we can provide you with Teeth in a Day.

Teeth in a Day are a type of dental implant. This particular treatment involves immediately loading your permanent replacement teeth onto the implant posts after surgery, thus avoiding the need for temporary teeth.

HOW IS "TEETH IN A DAY" DIFFERENT?

Typically, the process of getting your final teeth with dental implant treatment can take several months. At your surgery, you are provided with temporary teeth, which helps to restore the functions of your missing teeth while you wait. During your recovery, you attend several follow up appointments to ensure that the implants are integrating properly. Once you have fully healed, then the process of getting your final teeth begins.

With Teeth in a Day, you get your replacement teeth immediately. Rather than having your teeth created after you have healed from surgery, they are created beforehand. Impressions are taken before your surgical procedure. After obtaining a digital optical Trios scan of your mouth and a CBCT scan of your jaw structure (3 dimensionally), specialized software is used to design the placement of implants that will fit perfectly within your mouth. When you arrive on the day of your surgery, your temporary replacement teeth are prefabricated (from the digital process used to construct the bridgework) and waiting for you. Immediately following surgery with the installation of the dental implants, special implant abutments/connectors are seated and screwed into the implant bodies and then Dr. Starr connects the temporary crownwork to these abutments and shapes and polishes the temporary bridgework and secures it into position in the mouth.

AM I A CANDIDATE?

There are several factors that go into determining your candidacy for Teeth in a Day.
  • The number of teeth you are missing: Typically, Teeth in a Day is a good option for those missing many consecutive teeth or are about to lose a large number of teeth due to uncontrolled or unmanageable dental disease or trauma or who are missing an entire arch of teeth and struggling with the difficulty of wearing a full denture..
  • Your overall health. Just like any other surgical procedure, you need to be in good overall health to undergo the implant process. You need to be free of oral health issues such as gum disease and any chronic health issues you may have, including hypertension and diabetes. THESE ISSUES MUST BE UNDER CONTROL BEFORE EMBARKING ON THIS JOURNEY.
  • You do not smoke. If you are a smoker, you are not immediately ruled out as a candidate. You must be willing to quit at least for the duration of your treatment and recovery period.
  • The density, width and height of your jawbone. Teeth in a Day uses implants to support your replacement teeth, so you must have sufficient bone volume in your jaw structure to support these implants.
To determine if you are a good candidate, Dr. Starr will study the 3D CBCT scan of your jaw structure and he will assess the quality and quantity of jawbone structure available for satisfactory implant installation. Most of the time he is successful at designing the best implant restoration for you.
