Ideal Candidates for Teeth in a Day
Washington, DC

A man and woman smiling after receiving Teeth in a Day at Neil Starr, DDS, PC in Washington, DCDental implants are a modern treatment or tooth replacement, providing you a unique, beneficial alternative to traditional bridges and dentures. This particular treatment requires a surgical procedure, during which small titanium rods are implanted into your jawbone. The posts are then used to support dental crowns. Typically, the process of getting your final restorations can take up to several months. At Neil Starr, DDS, PC, however, we can provide you with Teeth in a Day. However, is this solution right for you?

What are Teeth in a Day?

Teeth in a Day are a type of dental implant. This particular treatment involves immediately loading your permanent replacement teeth onto the implant posts after surgery, thus avoiding the need for temporary teeth.

How are Teeth in a Day Different?

Typically, the process of getting your final teeth with dental implant treatment can take several months. After your surgery, you are provided with temporary teeth, which help to restore the functions of your missing teeth while you wait. During your recovery, you attend several follow up appointments to ensure that the posts are integrating properly. Once you have fully healed, then the process of getting your final teeth begins. The temporary teeth are removed and the abutments, or connectors, are placed.

Then impressions of your mouth are taken. These impressions are used to design and fabricate your final restorations. Once your teeth are ready, they are then screwed into place. With Teeth in a Day, you get your permanent teeth immediately. Rather than having your teeth created after you have healed from surgery, they are created beforehand. Impressions are taken before your surgical procedure. After obtaining a scan of your mouth, specialized software is used to design implants that will fit perfectly within your mouth. When you arrive on the day of your surgery, your permanent replacement teeth are ready and waiting for you. Immediately following surgery, the teeth are screwed into place. This eliminates the need for temporary teeth and cuts down on the total number of office visits that you need to have.

Am I a Candidate?

There are several factors that go into determining your candidacy for Teeth in a Day.
•  The number of teeth you are missing. Typically, Teeth in a Day is a good option for those missing several consecutive teeth or who are missing an entire arch of teeth.
•  Your overall health. Just like any other surgical procedure, you need to be in good overall health to undergo the implant process. You need to be free of oral health issues such as gum disease and any chronic health issues you may have, including hypertension and diabetes, must be well-managed.
•  You do not smoke. If you are a smoker, you are not immediately ruled out as a candidate. You must be willing to quit at least for the duration of your treatment and recovery period.
•  The density of your jawbone. Because Teeth in a Day use implants to support your replacement teeth, you must have sufficient bone mass in your jaw to support the posts.
