Dental Implants DC
Your teeth have several essential functions. Not only do they help you to bite and chew food, but they also aid in effective digestion. They are crucial for proper speech. They play a crucial role in the quality of your smile. The teeth also play a role in maintaining the health and integrity of your jawbone. When you lose teeth, your whole life is affected. Missing teeth can be replaced. Dental implants have quickly become the most popular treatment for replacing teeth. Neil Starr, DDS, PC can provide you with the implant restorations after the implant posts have been placed.

Replacing Teeth with Dental Implants

Dental implants are the modern alternative to traditional bridges and dentures, providing you with another option when it comes to replacing missing teeth. They are a unique treatment that involves the surgical implantation of small titanium rods directly into your jawbone. Your bone fuses to these posts, gradually integrating them into your jaw. They become strong, stable supports that are then used to hold your implant restorations securely in place.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Much like bridges and dentures, dental implants restore your abilities to bite, chew, and speak as well as restore your smile. However, they offer several significant benefits over traditional treatments that make them worth the investment.
•  Your dental restorations look exactly like your real teeth. The crowns are made from ceramic, a material that can be finished to perfectly match your real tooth color. Ceramic also reflects light similarly to enamel. Once set in place, no one will be able to tell the difference between your implants and your real teeth.
•  Your teeth are held securely in place. They will not slip around or fall out while eating. They also feel completely normal, meaning that you do not need to worry about trying to relearn how to speak.
•  Rather than relying on your gums for support, your teeth are supported by the titanium posts. As a result, they are much more comfortable. There is no pressure on your gums, nor do you have to worry about painful denture sores.
•  The posts stimulate your jawbone just like the roots of your natural teeth. This stops and prevents bone loss in your jaw. This helps to maintain its shape and integrity. Because your jawbone does not change shape, you do not need to worry about having your implants periodically replaced, unlike bridges or dentures.

Dental Implant Restoration Procedure

After you have fully healed from your implant surgery, it is time to begin the process of placing your implant restorations. This process typically takes two separate appointments. During your first appointment, we remove your temporary teeth and place the abutments on your implant posts. The abutments, or connectors, are designed to help provide stability for your restorations. Next, we take impressions of your mouth. These impressions are sent to our dental lab, where your final restorations are custom created. After they have been sent back, we check them for fit as well as for bite, and to make sure that they look completely natural in your mouth. If we do not need to make any adjustments, your restorations are secured into place with small screws. Once in place, they do not need to be removed unless they require professional maintenance.

With dental implants, not only are the functions of your missing teeth restored but so is the quality of your life. For more information on dental implant restorations, and to find out if this unique treatment is right for you, call Neil Starr, DDS, PC at (202) 293-7177 today.
