Looking in a mirror, small dental imperfections can take a significant toll on your look. Your smile can say a lot about your self-esteem and your confidence. Dr. Starr or Dr. Orta can provide simple repairs with dental bonding at his Washington, DC office. Using composite material, we can conceal cosmetic issues and refine and brighten our patients' smiles.
What Is Dental Bonding?Dental bonding uses the same material that dentists use to fill cavities after decay has been removed. Made up of quartz and resin, the composite material is strong, durable, and should remain in place for several years if cared for correctly. Patients love that its coloring can be matched to their teeth, helping the repair work be hidden in their mouth.
Dental bonding can be used to repair or restore teeth that:
• |
Have chipped or cracked. |
• |
Are intrinsically stained. |
• |
Have gaps. |
• |
Are misshapen. |
• |
Are uneven. |
• |
Are worn or flattened. |
• |
Are disproportionate in size. |
• |
Have irregularities. |
As an internationally renowned prosthodontists, Dr. Starr and Dr. Orta excel at providing patients with cosmetic enhancements that look natural, and complement their overall appearance. Dental bonding will assist in covering minor dental imperfections, but for long-term restorations, we offer dental veneers and crowns.
Dental Bonding Procedure Before treatment, Dr. Starr or Dr. Orta will select a shade of composite that most closely matches your neighboring teeth. The first step is to clean the teeth and area around, Dr. Starr or Dr. Orta will then roughen the enamel, this will help the bond be strong. Preparation for dental bonding is minimal and usually does not require anesthesia. The dental bonding procedure can be completed in just one office visit, and most patients find that they can resume normal activities, including returning to work, immediately following treatment.
With the area prepped, Dr. Starr or Dr. Orta will carefully apply, sculpt, and shape the composite material. He will take the time to ensure that you get optimal aesthetic results. Once complete, the resin is then cured with the application of blue light. The tooth is polished, helping the material gain a natural shine and the results should be seamless.
With proper care, dental bonding can last up to 10 years.
