Dental anxiety is a condition of stress, anxiety and fear caused by the idea of visiting a dentist.

Causes of Dental Anxiety and Fear


There are several causes of this condition such as fear of pain which may be as a result of past experiences or what you have heard before, embarrassment especially if your teeth have decayed, you might be ashamed of bad breath and your dental hygiene. Fear of injections is another thing that may trigger your dental anxiety especially because you may have to be injected inside the mouth while undergoing a dental procedure.

How to Calm Dental anxiety


There are tips that can help you overcome your fear and anxiety of visiting the dentist such as speaking up to the dentist. Telling your dentist that you are anxious will let the dentist help you to calm down before any procedure.

Breathing exercises are of great help in cases of nervousness, anxiety, fear, and stress. You can take deep breaths in and out to help increase the supply of Oxygen to your brain. This stimulates the nervous system making you calm down.

Regular dental visits is something you should consider doing. This will make you have lesser things to worry about on your next visit. Knowing that your oral health is okay may be a relief because you will have very little to worry about.
